Beer and Football... whoda thunk?

Fantasy Football is now as much a part of being a "guy" as boxer shorts and electric razors. Oh... and beer.

Can you see a pattern here? Something I read online somewhere around midnight one evening after a drunkin fantasy binge draft led me to the conclusion that having a forum online would be my ticket to internet millions...

Given the circumstances... and my condition... what better forum to start than an FFL forum. I think this one took about 30 name tries and a couple more beers to get...

TheTDClub.com

So much for the forum. So much for the millions. I still pay out the ass to lose at Fantasy Football every year.

Awesome.

If Your Going to Blog about Beer the next logical step is

to have a blog about Pubs! OF COURSE!! A couple drinking buddies of mine came up with the ultimate excuse for over-inebriation... let's form a club focused on local pubs in the area. Then... once a month we have an excuse to drink too much, no matter where it is!

And let's call it... Pub of the Month! Now there's a great idea. And a' pubbin' we did go! Of course the only criteria to be on Pub of the Month's list was... well... you were a Pub. Oh... and you had beer... so I guess there were 2 criteria... but I digress.

This grandiose idea morphed into yet ANOTHER 3 AM visit to GoDaddy... and PuboftheMonth.com was mine.

Damn, I'm good.

From Beer... to Wine. Yep, there were issues

in my younger domain dreaming days. I actually had a fight with a buddy of mine that led to a multi-domain purchase. It was more to piss him off then anything else. See, I had a recipe site... actually, it's still around and I still own the domain, but it's an inactive site. RecipeSourceOnline.com is what started all of this, but that's another story for another day.

My friend considers himself a wine expert. An "amateur sommelier" if you will... while he has a huge ego and claims to be an expert on almost everything "cultured", this is one subject where he can back up his boasts. Frequent trips to Napa Valley combined with social events he was personally invited to by the proprietors and wine makers due to some family connections, as well as a general addiction to alcohol provided the base of his knowledge.

I "commissioned" this friend to write a weekly food pairing wine column for the site under the pen-name Jackson Elliott. It's not there now, as there was a server problem and the original site was wiped clean. Dumb bastards. ANYWAY... of course in a drunken stupor.. or hangover... I can't remember which... we found ourselves in a disagreement over who was the actual "owner" of the columns. Yes, the idea of Jackson Elliott was his, but the idea of the columns was mine.

After about 30 email punches and a nasty voicemail or two, I found myself back at GoDaddy hurredly snapping up everything I could think of that was Jackson Elliott and wine related.

Of coures... JacksonElliott.com was already taken. A quick "whois" search told me what I already knew... the asshole had bought it for himself before I could get to it.

Sooo... I scarfed up WineByJacksonElliott.com among a few others. I let the rest expire... but kept this one.

Oh... and in the revenge category... put a back-up on JacksonElliott.com for two years. Sneaky, eh? Yep... puppy is all mine now...

Where is my buddy? Bankrupt. Not because of this, though... and I'm still not rich. But I own the freakin' names!!!! BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ourbeer.org

In the "Domain Names You Think of When You're Drunk Department"... again...

I don't think this was an original on my part, as the Beer Abbey url was... I remember (in some sort of chemical-induced haze... definitely alcohol related) reading something about home-brew, organic-type beers and picking this name up out of the article.

Of course, being drunk and knowing that ALL great ideas come about when you're in the tank, I got on good 'ole GoDaddy, searched it, and PRESTO it was mine! Another million dollar idea on the shelf.

That went far.

Ourbeer.org was born.

Links that linger on your...

My hobby has become an obsession. I swore I'd be a millionaire doing this. Oh well... not yet. I've collected a few domain names, messed around with a crapload of blogs and only managed a few thousand bucks. (That's a fact, by the way.)

After watching them sit around on GoDaddy and various other GoDaddy off-shoots, I decided that I'd have more fun watching them sit around here.

Here's the first one:

Beer Abbey

A couple years ago I thought I had a great idea for the world's pre-eminent beer lover's site. Great name. Shame I quit drinking beer. I think my alcohol problem had someting to do with that. Or maybe it was my wife?? Oh well. So much for that one. Now it's just parked and once in a while I get a penny or two credit for some idiot searching for beer who hits the Adsense ad. Yep... just a pass-through to nothingness and blood-shot eyes. I'm still positive it will make me a millionaire, though... after I'm dead.
